Keeping It Real
How about another lesson in business ethics, inspired by today’s headlines?
For the former Vice President, it was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
First, the good news: a predictable Oscar win for his PowerPoint presentation!
You’ve no doubt heard about Gore’s movie, “An Inconvenient Truth,” and are aware that the film paints a grim picture of the challenges faced by the planet as a result of global warming.
(For those of you who were paying attention several decades ago, this used to be called “The Greenhouse Effect.”)
However, this just in: today it was revealed that Mr. Gore burns through utilities at a somewhat than higher average.
Like, 10x higher than average!
That can’t exactly be chalked up to a rounding error.
And with the media writers now circling like sharks, it makes for a tough follow-up to Oscar.
So here’s the translation.
Whether you are in business to sell cars, or to sell video copies of an Oscar-winning documentary, your customers have one thing in common.
They do not want to feel taken advantage of.

Avoid driving a GM if you tout Ford to your clients. Oh, and keep your personal energy costs low if you implore others to do the same.
That is, if you are at all concerned about gaining - and keeping - the trust of the people you rely upon to keep you in business in the first place.
