Celebrate Good Times
How do you close out the year on a good note?
Celebrate.
Raise a glass to the success of your store, and give thanks for all of those who helped.
If sales are up, good for you. If they aren’t, well, you know what your goal is going to be…
Either way, it’s time to take a deep breath and start fresh. Don’t get caught up in the things that didn’t get done.
Concentrate now on those that are going to get done! Figure out what your resolution is going to be for the new year and stick to it!
You have to - for you, your employees, your customers and your future.
Happy New Year, everyone!
No commentsCleaning Up
Business relationships are very similar to personal ones.
And your work life very close to your home life!
Whatever you are doing at home during this post-holiday reprieve (cleaning up, re-organizing, playing with all the new gadgets you received from Santa…), you are likely doing at the office.
It’s time to put away the wreaths and the mistletoe and start the slow process of moving forward into the new year.
What do you predict for 2008?
Take these last few days to think about where you want to be next year. Five years from now. Ten.
Take an inventory of all the things you did and didn’t get done in 2007.
In these last few days until the New Year, spend some time reflecting. Clear your head. You’ll be all the more ready to bounce back into business come January 1.
No commentsWhat’s Your Policy?
It’s the question every consumer wants to know.
As long as they’re buying, they’re returning and exchanging, as well!
Decide right away what your policy is going to be.
You can always fine tune it as you go, but it’s important to let your customers know that you stand by your policy, whatever it may be.
Allow some breathing room. You don’t want to be too strict or your customers may feel trapped.
Remember what it feels like to be on the other side of a business transaction, where you are the purchaser.
You want to feel appreciated, but more than that you want to feel like you made a smart choice.
As long as your policy reflects the appreciation and respect you have for your customers, you should have nothing to worry about.
No commentsProcrastination
Well, the countdown is officially on. With just two weeks until Christmas, the mobs are beginning to form.
Ah, procrastination. Remember it?
Remember when it was actually an option? Not anymore.
As the owner of a business, procrastination is a thing of the past. Let the shoppers have it. You’ve got bigger things on your plate.
You’ve got invoices to fax. Receipts to collect. Bills to pay.
You’ve got employees to please, inspections to make, orders to fill.
You can’t afford to waste time or wait until the last minute to get things done.
As they say, there is no time like the present. And speaking of present, you’ll have plenty of time to open your own…after the holidays!
No commentsCan You Manage?
So you own your own business. That doesn’t mean you have to manage it.
If you do, fine. But be warned: Owning a business is a full-time job in itself. Add management to the mix and you’ve got a mighty full bowl of responsibility to munch on.
The manager helps keep all areas of the different departments of your business in order. So, if you are the manager of your own business then all that extra “stuff” falls on your shoulders.
Being a manager requires a certain…shall I say, smooth…personality. It is a demanding job and requires experience handling and being around people. People with needs.
Managers need to be punctual, organized, and have good communication and leadership skills. This will make the difference between failure and success.
In short, management is a responsibility that is not to be taken lightly. To be even more succinct, hire a manager! You forged the way, now let someone else carry your bags up the hill.

Amidst all your hard work and continuous efforts, you may have forgotten one very important thing.
Your blog!
Do you have one? If not, why? Not only are the most successful businesses online, but they are bloggers, as well!
Offering your customers an online marketplace is fantastic. Offering them your personal insight may be the ticket to keeping them coming.
There are many different things you can feature in your blog.
You can offer help on navigating your website, information and alerts on new products, notification of changes to orders, answers to FAQs, opinions and reviews, jokes, news articles or whatever!
It’s up to you. That’s the beauty of the almighty blog.
Its content can be funny, cheeky, serious, professional…you make the rules.
No commentsIt’s All In The Details
Details…details…details.
You know the mantra. But do you follow it?
You’ve heard it a million times. But do you believe it?
On the one hand, you hear again and again to take all the little details seriously.
On the other, you hear people telling you not to sweat the small stuff. What gives?!?
As with anything in life, you’ve got to give and take. Give what you know will help others, take what you instinctively know will help you.
Make up your own important details.
You’ll know what works best for you and your business as you delve deep into the entrepreneurial world.
You’ll discover what your customers want and what they don’t. You’ll find that taking those all-important details for granted won’t fly. And you’ll plan accordingly.
Won’t you?
